The mission of UPLIFT is to engage, empower, and work with our community to improve the lives of hungry, homeless, and underprivileged families and children. We are committed to providing not only immediate assistance but also long-term support and opportunities for growth.

At UPLIFT, we recognize the importance of education and literacy in breaking the cycle of poverty. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education and the chance to develop essential literacy skills. To achieve this, we focus on educational support initiatives that empower underprivileged children and families.

Making Change Possible

Founded in 2018, Uplift Community Outreach has made tremendous impact thanks to the help of members and volunteers in the Leon County community. The core of our work lies in the continuous passion and dedication we bring to the range of projects we take part in. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

It is our goal to bring joy to Tallahassee children. Your gift today provides toys, gifts and clothing to children in need.

Creating Meaningful Impact

Since our launch in 2018, the team at Uplift Community Outreach has worked tirelessly to promote our cause. We are fortunate to have volunteers and staff from all walks of life who bring their unique expertise and resources into everything we do. This is what enables us to achieve our goals year after year.

Uplift Community Outreach has fought to feed the hungry and provide supplemental income to families in need. Our vision is a future free of families being hungry and families being able to have enough income to meet basic needs.

While there is always more that can be done, there is no doubt that we are making a significant impact. We don’t measure our success through just facts and figures, but through happy faces and heartwarming feedback. See how you can become part of the difference.

Creating Meaningful Impact

Our Mission

The mission of UPLIFT is to engage, empower, and work with our community to improve the lives of hungry, homeless, and underprivileged families and children. We are committed to providing not only immediate assistance but also long-term support and opportunities for growth.

At UPLIFT, we recognize the importance of education and literacy in breaking the cycle of poverty. We believe that every child deserves access to quality education and the chance to develop essential literacy skills. To achieve this, we focus on educational support initiatives that empower underprivileged children and families.

Our programs aim to provide educational resources, tutoring, and mentorship to help children succeed academically. We collaborate with local schools, educators, and volunteers to offer after-school programs, homework assistance, and enrichment activities. By promoting literacy, we aim to equip children with the tools they need to thrive academically and expand their future opportunities.

Additionally, we work towards eliminating extreme poverty by fostering community engagement and self-empowerment. Through skill development workshops, vocational training, and entrepreneurship programs, we aim to equip individuals with the necessary tools and knowledge to create sustainable livelihoods and realize their full potential.

Through our initiatives, we strive to instill a message of hope, love, and inspiration in underprivileged children and families. By addressing their immediate needs, providing educational support, and empowering individuals, we believe in creating lasting change that uplifts communities and transforms lives.

Stand with us against food insecurity

Uplift Community Outreach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Through strategic communications, we work to change public attitudes about feeding the homeless or needy families. We want to reduce the number of hungry families as well as families in debt.

We are passionate and experienced advocates with a more than 5-year track record of leading and supporting families in need of resources and services in Leon County.

We’re making incredible progress against hunger:

We are giving out pounds of food each month. Uplift is providing over 125 pounds of food each month to needy families.

But the battle against hunger is far from over:

Thousands of Leon County residents are struggling with poverty. Every day families are searching for free services that offer help to thrive in society. For all of that demand, there are only a handful of organization in the area that are exhausting all their resources each month. It is clear that more agencies are needed to ensure the needs of the underprivileged are being met.

Food insecurity is also a common complaint from students at the nearby university and promised zone areas, as these are areas full of low-income families. We are convinced that there is a great marker opportunity here for a non-program organization offering food, holiday assistance, counseling and family services near campus and promise land areas.

The reason for homelessness in Leon County is a scarcity of affordable housing. Often, low-income families may become homeless due to unexpected financial circumstances: loss of a job or medical issue that prevents the family from maintaining stabling housing.

To add, extreme poverty and personal vulnerability is reasons there is homelessness in our community. People experiencing poverty can become homeless because of unemployment, low wages or the lack of available, affordable housing. Many low-income individuals have personal vulnerabilities that place them at risk of becoming homeless which include, substance abuse, mental illness, medical problems, domestic violence, prior evictions or poor credit, or a criminal background.

There are significant barriers for families trying to escape homelessness which include criminal offenses such as these, and certainly more serious convictions, can make it difficult to pass a required background check when trying to rent permanent housing. Additionally, certain felony convictions make it difficult to obtain a bed in an emergency shelter. Likewise, prior evictions and poor credit can make it difficult to rent decent affordable housing. In addition to these challenges, in Leon County, there is a shortage of affordable and safe housing and job opportunities that provide a decent living wage.

Uplift Outreach works to fill the gap of hungry, homeless, and underprivileged people, via a collaborative approach β€” addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our clients.

Our remarkable progress shows that we can win the fight against hunger. Uplift Community Outreach is unyielding in our resolve and committed to finishing the job.

Ways We Help Our Community

The Focus of Our Efforts

Bring joy to Tallahassee children.

Your gift today provides toys, gifts and clothing to children in need.

We offer holiday assistance to households living in poverty, dealing with homelessness or short-term hardship.

Food Insecurity

Food insecurity is defined as a household-level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food. Food insecurity does not necessarily cause hunger, I but hunger is a possible outcome of food insecurity. We join the stand against hunger in Leon County.

From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Uplift Online Learning Academy

We provide back online educational support and our children business fair to grow youth entrepreneurial skills. This program offers online life skills courses and events for adults, children and teens.

We want to relieve some of your financial worries.

In 2023 we launched Gimme a Break Single Parent Program. The total financial impact of the items you can receive for your children ranges from $25 to $250 PER FAMILY each year. Our goal is to relieve as many financial burdens related to providing for your children as we possibly can, allowing you to redirect any funds you may have spent on these items to support your family’s needs in other ways. It takes a village, and UPLIFT wants to be part of yours!

Help light up the holiday season. Uplift helps families gift Tallahassee’s kids every holiday season.

WE’RE BRINGING THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT TO DISADVANTAGED KIDS!

Because we believe that EVERY child deserves to have joy-filled, magical, holiday memories.

Parents or legal guardians of Tally area children who are receiving any form of public assistance are able to receive FREE holiday gifts for their children.

Unlike many nonprofits that distribute holiday gifts to disadvantaged children, Uplift allows parents to choose which toys and gifts they want to give their children and to give them to them however and whenever they choose. For last few years, parents were invited to come to our site, and pick up donated toys and clothing. In an effort to keep our staff, volunteers and the families we serve safe during the pandemic, Gift a Child Holiday Aid Program has gone digital! Now parents can register their children, upload proof of benefits, and pick up gifts at our assigned location.

Applications are closed.

GETTING STARTED IS EASY

  1. Sign Up: If you haven’t done that yet, there’s no need to worry. Making an account is quick an easy. Go to the sign up page here and fill out the form. Remember to accept the terms and conditions before you click submit, and you will be ready to go!
  2. Accept a project: Review our service projects There you can accept a service project that is right for you.
  3. From virtual opportunities to food pantry assistance, Uplift posts well over 5 volunteer opportunities in a typical week to help you find something that interests you. Sign up for as many projects as you will attend, and you’re ready to begin serving!
  4. Serve: You’re now ready to get out and serve the Tallahassee community! Whether you’re dialing in from Zoom or driving up to an in-person event, there are a few things to keep in mind.
    • First, remember to double check that you’re arriving for your project at the right date and time that you registered for. Many opportunities have multiple time slots, and we want to make sure you’re here for the right one!
    • Also, remember to sign in and sign out for the project because without signing we can’t verify your hours. Verifying your hours is the only way to get a service letter confirming your mandatory service, but we’ll talk more about this in step four.
    • The last thing to do when serving is to have fun! Take advantage of the opportunity to do something good, meet other people and gain a better understanding of challenges facing our community.
  5. Request a Service Letter: After completing all your hours, it’s time to request a service letter. Uplift will provide your service letters via email or fax/email to your probation officer. You can also pick up in person. This is important to know if you are faced with a time sensitive request. Please plan accordingly. We send letters digitally, on Uplift letterhead, with a signature.

REQUEST A SERVICE LETTER

  • When writing service letters, we can only confirm your verified hours of service. We understand that it can be frustrating to wait for hours to be verified, especially if you need them quickly. Please know that it typically takes between 2 and 5 business days for volunteer hours to be verified. If your hours are not verified within that time frame, please reach out to the organization directly.
